George Siao Kian Ty (1933— ) is the head of GT Capital Holdings Inc. (GTCAP) through which he holds interests in Metrobank, Federal Land, Toyota Motor Philippines, Philippine AXA Life, and Global Business Power as well as their subsidiaries and affiliates such as First Metro Investment Corporation, Philippine Savings Bank (PS Bank), Metrobank Foundation Inc. which through Manila Medical Services, Inc. controls Manila Doctors Hospital and Manila Tytana Colleges (formerly Manila Doctors College), Asia Pacific Top Management International Resources Corp. which runs the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu Hotel, and Toyota Financial Services Philippines Corporation among others.
Born to Norberto Ty and Victoria Ty Tan in Hong Kong, he was brought to the Philippine at the age of six. His father would later marry Salustiana Dee. As a teenager he worked at the family's Wellington Flour Mills which was named after his half-brother Wellington. When the family business ran into some financial difficulties, he says he came to realize the power of bankers and decided to become one. In 1962, at age 29, he started Metrobank (Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, MBT) the company that he is most closely identified with and which has become one of the Philippines' largest banks.
He has five children: Arthur, Alfred, Anjanette, Margaret, and Alesandra who all work in the Ty family's various businesses.
